Kuala Lumpur: Universiti Malaya (UM) today clarified that it was not organising the Spring Festival Gala 2025 but was merely the location of the festivities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the university emphasized that the Chinese Embassy was the sole organiser of the event, which will be managed by several student associations of China nationals. UM highlighted its role in supporting the event by ensuring that the national anthem of Malaysia, Negaraku, would be played alongside China's anthem in accordance with the National Anthem Act 1968.

The university underscored its commitment to upholding the sovereignty of the country by instilling patriotic values in its students. UM, as Malaysia's oldest public university, reiterated its dedication to nurturing a sense of national pride among its student body.

Furthermore, UM expressed its support for the government's internationalisation policy, indicating its openness to welcoming and celebrating international students, thereby enhancing cultural exchange and diversity on campus.
