Close Cooperation Between Malaysia, Singapore Leaders Vital For Shared Prosperity – Anwar

Singapore: Close cooperation, in-depth discussions and continued engagement with full trust between the leaders of Malaysia and Singapore are essential for shared prosperity, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized during his recent engagement with Singaporean leaders.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted the significance of the relationship between Malaysia and Singapore, describing them as not just friendly nations but as close neighbors akin to family. The two countries have maintained a supportive and interdependent relationship through six decades of diplomatic ties. He expressed pride in the achievements realized together with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and expressed hope that the momentum of collaboration would continue to grow, benefiting the citizens of both nations.

During his one-day working visit to Singapore, Anwar attended the 12th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders' Retreat. This annual event, hosted alternately by Malaysia and Singapore, is the highest-level platform for reviewing bilateral cooperation, addressing regional and international issues of mutual interest, and exploring new opportunities for strengthening the partnership between the two nations.

Singapore continues to be Malaysia's second-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching US$78.70 billion (RM339.39 billion) from January to October 2025, accounting for 13.5 percent of Malaysia's total trade. This year marks 60 years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Singapore, underscoring the enduring cooperation and mutual support between the neighboring countries.
