Cyberjaya: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to refrain from investigating individuals who criticize him, provided the comments do not involve criminal elements. Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, emphasized that political remarks aimed at him should not necessitate police action.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar addressed this directive following instances where actions were taken against government critics, some of whom targeted him personally. He stated that he has directed that such cases should not be investigated unless they involve clear criminal conduct or excessively improper claims. Anwar clarified that he does not question the intentions or motives of his critics, even if their comments are baseless.
Anwar made these remarks after attending Friday prayers with approximately 1,500 congregants at the Cyberjaya 10 Mosque. He also expressed his concern over certain individuals within Malay and Islamic parties who justify or encourage excessive or unfounded criticisms. Nevertheless, he reiterated his stance that criticisms directed at him, either in his personal capacity or as Prime Minister, should not prompt police action, emphasizing that normal political remarks, including calls for his resignation, should not be entertained by him or the PDRM.
