Perak: The implementation of Cloud Seeding Operations in the Bukit Merah and Lake Temengor areas last week has successfully increased water levels in both catchment areas. Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad stated that the operation was necessary to ensure sufficient water resource management and to maintain the feasibility of hydroelectric power generation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the operations were crucial to address the water shortage in Lake Temengor, Lake Banding, and Lake Chenderoh. Without cloud seeding and resulting rainfall, the feasibility of electricity generation could be disrupted. Saarani emphasized the importance of maintaining adequate water levels to ensure that Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) can effectively manage water release. Low water levels would impact conditions from Kuala Kangsar to Teluk Intan, affecting water intake points operated by the Perak Water Board (LAP) and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS).

Saarani highlighted these points during a walkabout at the Ramadan Bazaar in the Perak Stadium grounds at Jalan Kompleks Sukan. The need for cloud seeding operations was underscored by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on February 10, when he announced that several operations would be conducted in Johor, Kedah, and Perak due to depleting water levels in several dams caused by continuous hot weather.
