KUALA LUMPUR: Community safety has been identified as a critical component of a nation's prosperity, requiring involvement from law enforcement and active participation from residents and businesses.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, Chairman of the Alliance for a Safe Community, emphasized that a thriving nation is built on a foundation of community safety. He highlighted the importance of protecting lives and property, which in turn enhances economic growth, fosters social cohesion, and improves mental well-being.

Lee noted that while policies and enforcement are vital, effective safety initiatives are contingent upon the empowerment of communities by the government. This empowerment enables residents to actively participate in creating safer environments. He urged policymakers to focus on establishing legislative frameworks that encourage community involvement, allocate resources for community-based safety programs, and foster partnerships between the public and private sectors.

He advocated for policymakers to lead by example and create conditions that promote shared responsibility. By prioritizing collaborative safety measures, communities can be developed to be safe, inclusive, and prepared for future challenges.

Lee underscored that ensuring safety is not exclusively the duty of police or government entities but a collective responsibility. He urged everyone to take an active role in community protection to create a better future for all.
