Port Klang:Sessions Court: The Sessions Court has scheduled November 26 for the mention of a case involving a volunteer and a housewife accused of animal abuse.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Judge Siti Nur Shafrida Hashim set this date following a request by the prosecuting officer from the Selangor Veterinary Services Department, Mohd Sharif Sabran, to submit additional case documents, including a report from CyberSecurity Malaysia. The defence lawyer is representing the accused, Muhammad Shah Idham Nor Haikal Shaharom, 24, and S. Roghini Devi, 42.
On August 20, both individuals pleaded not guilty to charges of causing unnecessary pain to a dog by dragging it with a snare loop. The alleged incident occurred in front of a house on Jalan Sama Gagah 20, Taman Telok Gedung Indah, Port Klang, between 11 pm and 11:30 pm on July 29.
The charges fall under Section 29(1)(e) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, which carries penalties of up to RM100,000 in fines, up to three years imprisonment, or both if convicted.
In a related matter, the Magistrate's Court, presided over by Magistrate A. Karthiyayini, also set November 26 for mention of a separate charge against Roghini Devi. She is accused of keeping a dog over three months old without a valid licence from the Royal Klang City Council. This offence, allegedly committed at the same time and place, is charged under Section 3 of the Dog Licensing and Dog Breeding Establishment (Klang Municipal Council) By-Laws 2007, with penalties of up to RM2,000 in fines, up to one year of imprisonment, or both if convicted.
