Seri kembangan: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department conducted a significant raid in Seri Kembangan, resulting in the seizure of 638 kilogrammes of cannabis flowers valued at RM62.5 million on December 2.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Siti Mang, the Customs (Enforcement and Compliance) deputy director-general, revealed that officers found 17 parcel boxes and several aluminium foil packages containing the suspected cannabis flowers during the 3.50 pm raid at a double-storey terrace house. In addition to the cannabis, a motorcycle, weighing equipment, and a heat-sealing machine were also confiscated and have been sent to the Narcotics Branch of the Enforcement Division at the Customs headquarters.
Siti Mang explained that the rented house was allegedly used as a packaging site for the cannabis flowers. The syndicate reportedly used bedsheet boxes to conceal the drugs and evade detection by authorities. These boxes, labeled as Microfibre Bedsheet, were presumably intended for international shipment, with operations suspected to have been ongoing since September.
No arrests have been made yet, as the syndicate members are believed to have fled upon the arrival of Customs officers. Siti Mang noted that the house was rented under a foreign national's name, but local involvement is also a possibility. This seizure marks the largest of cannabis flowers recorded this year. The cannabis flowers, being more valuable than conventional drugs, were likely meant for foreign markets, with their packaging conducted in Malaysia and potentially originating from a neighboring country.
The case is currently under investigation as per Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The Customs Department is urging the public to provide any relevant information by contacting their toll-free line at 1-800-88-8855 or reaching out to the nearest Customs office. They assure that the identities of informants will remain confidential.
