Kuala lumpur: The retail price of diesel in Peninsular Malaysia will experience a reduction of 30 sen, bringing it down to RM4.87 per litre for the period from May 14 to 20, 2026, from its previous price of RM5.17.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced today that the retail price of RON97 will also be decreased by 20 sen to RM4.70 per litre, while the unsubsidised price of RON95 will see a reduction of 15 sen, settling at RM3.87 per litre. This price adjustment is part of the government's ongoing efforts to maintain targeted subsidised fuel prices for the public and selected sectors.
The ministry further clarified that subsidised RON95, under the BUDI MADANI programme (BUDI95), will remain at RM1.99 per litre. Additionally, diesel in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan will be available at RM2.15 per litre. The Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS) and the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) will maintain prices at RM2.05 and RM2.15 per litre, respectively.
The MOF noted that the current reduction in retail prices for diesel, RON95, and RON97 aligns with the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) formula, which reflects the recent decline in international oil prices. Despite the reduction, fuel prices continue to be significantly higher than pre-conflict levels in West Asia, with crude oil prices currently around US$100 per barrel compared to US$60 to US$70 per barrel previously.
Retail fuel prices are also impacted by increased logistics and insurance costs due to heightened risks in conflict zones. The ongoing risk of disruptions along the Strait of Hormuz further contributes to global oil supply pressures, influencing market prices.
Amid this continued global market uncertainty, the MOF has urged the public to use fuel judiciously to help conserve national supplies. The ministry emphasized that the MADANI government remains committed to balancing the cost of living with prudent fiscal management, striving to shield the rakyat from price volatility while ensuring the security and sufficiency of national fuel supplies.
