Disaster Fund Relief Pending Official Farmer Impact Assessment

Kuala lumpur: The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) is awaiting official data on the number of farmers affected by recent floods, particularly in Kedah, before distributing aid through its disaster funds, stated Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu. The funds are not activated on a one-off basis but are instead reliant on current conditions and the extent of impact during each disaster season.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Minister mentioned that floods have only recently occurred and waters have receded in Kedah. The Ministry anticipates receiving the actual figures in the coming days, which will determine when the disaster fund will be channelled to eligible farmers. This statement was made during the pre-launch of the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism (MAHA) 2026 exhibition.

The Ministry has yet to gather official data on the affected states, as KPKM teams can only perform damage assessments once floodwaters fully recede. KPKM had previously declared that post-disaster assistance is accessible under the Padi Crop Disaster Fund (TBTP) for rice farmers and the Agricultural Disaster Fund (TBP) for agri-food operators.

Minister Mohamad also noted that RM25 million has been allocated under the TBP this year to support victims of disasters such as floods and drought.
