Tenom: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Forensic Unit has appointed an expert to review data obtained from LGMS Bhd and stored on a pen drive, a prosecution witness said in the sexual harassment trial involving preacher Ebit Erawan Ibrahim Lew, or Ebit Lew. The 18th prosecution witness, PDRM Investigating Officer Supt Noor Asyikin Shamsuri, 46, informed the Tenom Magistrate's Court that the expert was Insp Yip Chang Ching, a computer forensic analyst with the police and the eighth witness in the case.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Noor Asyikin made these statements while responding to questions from Ebit Lew's lawyer, Datuk Ram Singh, during cross-examination, before Magistrate Nur Asyraf Zolhani. She mentioned that she had accessed the flash drive to transfer data from LGMS but did not review all its contents, indicating that additional data could be retrieved from Insp Yip if necessary.
In the proceedings, Noor Asyikin noted that the information sought in this case includes any data, information, images, or conversations of a sexual nature. During the cross-examination, Ram Singh inquired if the PDRM Forensic Unit could extract deleted messages from the complainant, to which Noor Asyikin partially agreed.
Ebit Lew, 38, is facing 11 charges of sexual harassment, which include sending obscene images and messages via WhatsApp to a woman in her 40s between March and June of the previous year. These charges fall under Section 509 of the Penal Code, with penalties that may include a maximum of five years' imprisonment, a fine, or both.
The trial, which commenced in September 2022, has included testimonies from 18 prosecution witnesses thus far. The proceedings are scheduled to continue on November 24 and 25.
