Kuala Lumpur:The construction of a covered pedestrian bridge connecting the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) Gombak station with the Gombak LRT station is anticipated to be finished by March 2027, as announced by Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MRL has taken into account the integration of public transport and pedestrian access facilities at the ECRL Gombak Integrated Terminal (TBG) station since the project's early planning stages. The pedestrian bridge aims to directly connect the ECRL Gombak station with the Gombak LRT station, enhancing connectivity between these public transport facilities.
In the interim, MRL will offer a temporary pedestrian walkway through Prasarana Malaysia Berhad's facilities, allowing passenger movement when the ECRL service begins operations in December. Safety, comfort, and ease of movement, especially for passengers with luggage, are prioritized in this temporary route.
Additionally, MRL is in discussions with Prasarana about a proposed shuttle service between the two stations, intended as an extra facility for passengers carrying luggage. The pedestrian access facility is a part of the initiative to ensure that the Gombak ECRL station operates as a public transport hub integrated with the current rail and transport network.
MRL assures that temporary access facilities will suffice for passenger needs during the ECRL service launch while permanent pedestrian bridge facilities are being finalized. MRL values public attention, feedback, and will continue to work with relevant parties to ensure the facilities are safe, practical, and user-friendly.
