Election Commission Introduces OCR-VA System for Melaka State Election

Melaka:The Election Commission (EC) is set to implement the Optical Character Recognition-Voter Attendance (OCR-VA) system across all polling streams in the Melaka state election.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the EC chairman, Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, announced that this system will be used in all 28 state constituencies in Melaka. It aims to automatically record and confirm voters' attendance by scanning their identification documents, thus enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of the voting process.

Ramlan emphasized that the introduction of the OCR-VA system is part of efforts to digitalize the electoral process while maintaining the current voting procedures. He made these remarks during a press conference following a special meeting on the Melaka state election arrangements.

Voters will still present their identification documents for verification, and then continue with the voting process as usual. The OCR-VA system was first piloted during the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election on August 1, where it was tested at the Ampangan seat.

The EC will continue to livestream election processes at selected polling centres on its official Facebook page and will announce unofficial results after polling ends. Additionally, a 'Jom Kita Undi' campaign will be launched to motivate voter participation through various media platforms.

The Melaka state election is scheduled for November 14, with early voting set for November 10 and candidate nominations on October 31.
