Mecca: A haj mabrur, or pilgrimage accepted by Allah SWT, requires more than merely fulfilling the pillars and conditions of the haj, as pilgrims must also maintain good conduct and control their emotions in the face of various challenges in the Holy Land.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tabung Haji chief haj adviser Datuk Dr Luqman Abdullah stated that the pilgrimage serves as the greatest tarbiah for Muslims. Pilgrims must endure challenges such as scorching weather, congestion involving millions of people, and changes to their daily routines. He emphasized that the ability to maintain good relations with others is crucial in determining whether the haj is accepted.
Luqman advised pilgrims not to become angry easily and to avoid engaging in arguments. He highlighted that in situations with large crowds and extreme heat, emotions can be easily affected. However, he cited Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), noting that a truly strong person is one who can control themselves when angry.
Luqman further explained that haj mabrur is not only about fulfilling the pillars and conditions of the pilgrimage but also involves developing good character and purifying the soul. He observed that many pilgrims focus on the technical aspects of the pilgrimage but may overlook the importance of patience, tolerance, and guarding one's speech as part of the spirit of haj.
He noted that haj mabrur is filled with acts of goodness, and therefore maintaining good conduct is vital during one's time in the Holy Land. The haj teaches humility, as all pilgrims enter the state of ihram, leaving behind worldly pride regardless of rank, status, or wealth.
Luqman also reminded pilgrims to increase their prayers, zikir, and talbiah, especially during wukuf in Arafah, which he described as the pinnacle of the haj pilgrimage. He stressed that the period of wukuf should be fully utilized to draw closer to Allah SWT and seek forgiveness, with the hope that pilgrims leave Arafah not only with a valid haj but with haj mabrur, returning home with improved character and conduct.
