MFA Prioritises TVET To Strengthen Malaysia’s Franchise Ecosystem

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA) is stepping up efforts to strengthen the franchise ecosystem through strategic programmes and closer industry-government collaboration, with a primary focus on human capital development via Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Its chairman, Datuk Dr Radzali Hassan, announced a collaboration with Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) on a TVET initiative specifically tailored for the franchise industry.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Radzali expressed hope for support from all MFA members and franchise players across sectors at the opening of the Franchise International Malaysia 2026 (FIM 2026). The event, officiated by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, was held on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Radzali noted that several franchise brands, including 7-Eleven, McDonald's, and Marrybrown, have integrated TVET-related programmes into their business operations. More players are expected to follow suit following encouraging feedback. MFA plans to launch the ASEAN University Franchise Business Challenge in collaboration with franchise associations from the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Singapore, aiming to nurture young entrepreneurial talent and solidify Malaysia as a regional hub for franchise education.

In addition, this year marks the graduation of the first batch from the Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) programme, introduced by the International Franchise Association (IFA). MFA is the only association in Malaysia licensed to run this internationally recognised professional certification programme, in collaboration with the Philippine Franchise Association.

Guided by its motto, 'Driving Franchise Excellence', MFA is committed to working closely with the government and industry stakeholders to build a competitive and sustainable franchise nation. Radzali affirmed the association's focus on strengthening industry capabilities, expanding the global market, and creating growth opportunities for Malaysian entrepreneurs and franchise brands locally and internationally.

FIM 2026 is expected to attract over 25,000 visitors and generate more than RM600 million in transactions during its three-day event from 21-23 May. Radzali highlighted the increase in international participation, with countries such as Spain, Taiwan, Indonesia, Japan, and China contributing to a 10 per cent rise, reflecting a collective aspiration to position Malaysia as a central gateway for franchise expansion and investment.

Over the years, FIM has grown into a prominent regional franchise exhibition, connecting entrepreneurs, investors, and franchise owners while generating meaningful business opportunities and economic impact. The event not only serves as an exhibition but also as a strategic platform for business growth, knowledge sharing, and international networking.

The event witnessed the exchange of three Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) involving MFA with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (Pernas), and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), along with the MFA and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL). Additionally, the MFA TVET programme was launched, and graduation certificates were presented to participants of the franchise professional training programme, namely the Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) Programme.
