Putrajaya:Ankara Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan extended his condolences to Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim following the death of Anwar's elder brother, Idrus Ibrahim. The condolences were conveyed during a telephone conversation between the two leaders.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Erdogan also extended his sympathies to former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family on the passing of Mahathir's wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali. Anwar expressed that Erdogan's thoughts and prayers were significant during this challenging period.
The Prime Minister mentioned that he and Erdogan discussed several current issues of mutual interest, though specifics were not provided. Tun Dr Siti Hasmah passed away at the National Heart Institute at the age of 100. Her funeral took place at Pusara Negara, Precinct 20, Putrajaya, with a State Funeral ceremony.
Idrus Ibrahim, aged 83, died peacefully in his sleep at home and was interred at the Cheruk Tok Kun Bawah Muslim Cemetery. He was a former headmaster and is survived by his wife, four children, and ten grandchildren.
