Kuala krai: An express bus carrying 15 people overturned in an accident at Kampung Batu Balai, Jalan Kuala Krai-Kota Bharu early this morning. The Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency call through the MERS system at 5.30 am from a member of the public. A team from the Sungai Durian and Kuala Krai Fire and Rescue Stations was immediately dispatched to the scene, arriving at 5.54 am. The accident involved an express bus with 15 victims, including the driver, with two of them found trapped.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the rescue operation is ongoing with 13 firefighters and three fire engines deployed. Kuala Krai District Police Chief, Superintendent Mazlan Mamat, stated that the bus was driven by a 34-year-old local man from the Integrated South Terminal (TBS), Kuala Lumpur, heading to Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas. The bus suddenly lost control, causing the driver to be unable to manage the vehicle properly, resulting in it skidding to the left shoulder of the road and overturning.
As a result of the accident, the second driver, a 32-year-old local man, sustained minor injuries, and two passengers were rushed to the Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital, Kuala Krai, for treatment. The first driver and 11 other passengers did not suffer any injuries. Mazlan stated that the case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987, and a detailed investigation regarding this incident is currently underway.
