F1 Grand Prix Traffic Measures Announced for Sepang International Circuit

Sepang:All vehicles heading to the Sepang International Circuit for the 2026 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix will undergo screening at five main locations to ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the event.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar announced that vehicles will be screened for tickets, vehicle passes, and access stickers before being allowed entry to the circuit. The five screening locations include the route from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport toll plaza towards Jalan Pekeliling, from KLIA1 towards Jalan Pekeliling, before the Masjid Roundabout towards the circuit, from Kota Warisan towards Labohan Dagang and Jalan KLIA1, and at the junction of Jalan Kuarters KLIA towards the circuit at the Enstek traffic lights.

A total of 365 officers and personnel from the Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department will be deployed to manage traffic, prevent congestion, enforce laws, and escort VIPs during the event. The traffic operation will run from 9 am to 6 pm daily starting tomorrow, with a focus on the race this Sunday.

Parking facilities at the event can accommodate 9,000 vehicles and up to 100 buses simultaneously. Public transport services have been coordinated to reduce the use of private vehicles, with 200 e-hailing passes issued to Grab and 100 to Prestige Lane for pickups and drop-offs at the Long Term Car Park and selected hotels. Additionally, 95 MyRapid shuttle buses and 50 shuttle buses operated with Grab will provide transportation from six locations.

Visitors without parking tickets are advised to use designated shuttle bus and e-hailing service locations. Strict measures, including fines and vehicle towing, will be enforced against rule violators, especially those parking in restricted areas.

A tidal flow or contra-flow system will be implemented along a 13-kilometer route between the Masjid Roundabout and the circuit. Road users are encouraged to follow instructions from traffic personnel and comply with temporary signs and lane controls.

In case of congestion outside the circuit, alternative routes via the ELITE Expressway and other expressways are available for those traveling from north to south. Heavy vehicles will be controlled and diverted at eight checkpoints by the Road Transport Department and Royal Malaysia Police.

Information on routes to the circuit and KLIA during the F1 event will be displayed on digital billboards at the KLIA Toll Plaza. The public should follow traffic instructions, travel early, and plan their journeys carefully. Passengers using KLIA are encouraged to leave earlier to avoid congestion and ensure timely arrival at the airport.
