Malaysia Reaches Asian Games Men’s Hockey Final with Win Over South Korea

Gifu:Malaysia's men's hockey team triumphed over South Korea with a 2-1 victory in the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games semi-final.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, forward Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal played a crucial role in securing Malaysia's win by scoring both goals. He first scored in the 40th minute from a penalty corner, and then doubled the lead three minutes later with a penalty stroke.

Despite South Korea's Lee Gangsan reducing the score in the 42nd minute, Malaysia maintained their lead until the end. This victory places Malaysia in the final against India, the defending champions, with the match set for Saturday. The winner will also earn a spot in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

India reached the final by defeating Pakistan 4-3 in the other semi-final, setting up a repeat of the 2018 Asian Games final. Malaysia's journey to the final has also seen head coach Brendon Carolan meet the team's Key Performance Indicator (KPI). This marks Malaysia's third appearance in the Asian Games men's hockey final, following their runner-up finishes in 2010 and 2018.
