Kuala lumpur: Preparations for facilities for the 34th SEA Games and 14th ASEAN Para Games have reached about 40 per cent, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol said. He announced that the facilities for both sporting events are expected to be fully ready by the first quarter of next year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mordi stated that once the facilities are completed, a test run will be conducted to ensure all facilities function as intended and to avoid any issues. He made these remarks during the launch of the one-year countdown celebration to the 2027 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.

Mordi also emphasized the importance of unity, urging Malaysians to collaborate and play their respective roles in ensuring the success of the preparations for the two regional sporting events. The theme for the events is 'Celebrating Unity', and the effort involves various stakeholders, including the federal government, state governments, local authorities, sports associations, private sector, educational institutions, media practitioners, volunteers, and the public.

He expressed a desire for the entire country to feel excitement towards 2027, not just when the competitions begin but starting now. The countdown event is seen as a crucial step in building momentum, awareness, and excitement while encouraging everyone to be part of this historic journey. Mordi called on all Malaysians to support national athletes and be ready to become the best hosts for ASEAN.

Malaysia has a history of hosting the SEA Games and is scheduled to host the 34th SEA Games from September 18 to 29, 2027, followed by the 14th ASEAN Para Games from October 17 to 23, 2027.
