Hanoi:Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has called on young individuals to assume leadership roles by engaging with their communities proactively, rather than waiting for formal titles or positions. Leadership, according to him, is not a matter of age but of the courage to take responsibility.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah conveyed this message during his Special Address at the International Young Future Leaders Summit (iFUTURE) 2026. He emphasized that the future belongs to those who serve before being called. The event was attended by Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) secretary-general Datuk Amiruddin Hashim, and Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) vice-chancellor Prof Yatimah Alias.
Fadillah highlighted the importance of three core foundations for young leaders values, vision, and responsibility. He noted that while technology and artificial intelligence can enhance capabilities, it is values that guide them. This principle aligns with the Malaysia MADANI’s focus on human dignity and public trust.
He further stated that vision is critical in navigating change, emphasizing that leadership is about actively shaping the future. However, he stressed the necessity of translating values and vision into meaningful actions and responsibilities. Addressing neglected problems, even minor ones, can significantly impact those affected.
Fadillah also encouraged resilience, building trustworthy teams, and being open to feedback and collaboration among young leaders. He described listening and asking for help as strengths and integral to value-based leadership.
The summit, themed 'Redefining Future Leaders Through Value-Based Leadership,' is a three-day event from October 11 to October 13. It aims to create an international student leadership network through intellectual discourse and strategic dialogue with top national leaders, bringing together over 1,000 student leaders from higher education institutions across 60 countries.
