Fahmi Urges Online Moderation on Racial Comments

Kuala Lumpur: Social media users are reminded to be moderate when expressing opinions on racial matters online, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. He emphasized the importance of being mindful of sensitivities in a multiracial society when posting comments and opinions on social media platforms.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi highlighted the ease with which sentiments can spread or go viral, urging users to exercise caution and moderation in their online interactions. He noted that comments, which may seem unnoticed, can be easily identified by others, including netizens who might gather information about individuals posting such remarks.

Fahmi's statement was in response to a recent controversy involving a corn vendor who displayed a racially insensitive signboard, sparking backlash on social media. The vendor has since apologized, particularly to the Indian community, acknowledging the potential disruption his actions could cause to societal harmony.

National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang commented on the incident via a post on X, noting that the vendor has committed to refraining from similar actions in the future.
