Kuala lumpur: The family institution is crucial for shaping an ethical and responsible society, said Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri. She emphasized the government's commitment, through her ministry, to strengthen family institutions by introducing policies, support programmes, and parenting education to address current challenges.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nancy Shukri pointed out that today's children face numerous challenges, from the pervasive influence of social media to subtle emotional pressures. Despite these challenges, she asserted that the family remains the primary source of protection. She made these remarks at the closing ceremony of Kem Kasih Keluarga 2.0, held in conjunction with National Family Month.
Nancy highlighted the need for a holistic approach to strengthening family institutions, which includes improving parenting skills, fostering effective communication, promoting positive discipline, and offering community support. In line with the KASIH Keluarga Negara agenda outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), she mentioned that the role of men in the country's socio-economic development will be further strengthened, particularly through the Lelaki Budiman Programme, which has been allocated RM4 million.
During the official launch of National Family Month on Nov 9, Nancy introduced the Kebapaan (Fatherhood) module, emphasizing the crucial role of fathers as protectors, guides, and leaders within the family. The module is designed to assist fathers in balancing work and family life, managing stress effectively, and communicating with care.
While acknowledging that no father is perfect, Nancy expressed that every father can be a source of strength and inspiration for their family. Following the event, she announced that the government is offering a 100 per cent tax deduction for employers who organise family-oriented activities, aimed at fostering a harmonious and productive work environment.
Eligible activities for this tax deduction include family days, company sports events, annual dinners, and team-building programmes that promote family well-being. Employers can claim this deduction if they meet certain conditions, such as organizing the activities themselves and ensuring they benefit all employees or specific groups, with verified expenses.
