Bukit Payong:Dissatisfaction over alleged frequent money demands by an elder brother is believed to have driven a mentally challenged man to fatally attack him in Bukit Payong yesterday, according to police reports.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin stated that the police received information about a violent incident at a family home in Kampung Banggol Tasekat around 10:55 am. The victim, aged 43, was allegedly beaten to death with a blunt object by his younger brother, while their 36-year-old sister sustained injuries during an attempt to intervene.
The suspect, aged 42, who has a mental disability, was apprehended by the police near the roadside in Bandar Bukit Payong shortly after the incident. It is believed the suspect was unhappy with his brother, who had a record of drug-related issues and allegedly often requested money from the family.
The injured sister is currently receiving medical treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, having suffered a head wound, a fractured right thumb, and a minor spleen injury.
Police have remanded the suspect to aid in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
