Songkhla:Malaysians driving their vehicles into Thailand are advised to ensure their insurance coverage includes third-party claims in the event of a road accident.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Consul General of Malaysia in Songkhla, Ahmad Fahmi Ahmad Sarkawi, emphasized the importance of such insurance, particularly if a Malaysian driver causes an accident resulting in injury or death. This coverage is crucial as it can help manage the substantial compensation that may be required for the injured parties or the family of a deceased victim.
Ahmad Fahmi highlighted past cases where Malaysian drivers involved in accidents in Thailand struggled to pay compensation due to insufficient insurance, which often only covered medical costs. He further advised Malaysians to obtain insurance that also covers vehicle damage from natural disasters.
Additionally, Ahmad Fahmi cautioned against traveling at night in high-risk areas such as Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat, following security incidents in these southern Thai provinces. He recommended that travelers use Apple Maps or Google Maps for navigation in southern Thailand, as these applications are considered safer than Waze, which might lead drivers through risky shortcuts.
