Kuala lumpur: The Federal Court has scheduled a three-day hearing from November 10 to deliberate on the prosecution's appeal against the acquittal of Samirah Muzaffar and two teenagers, who faced charges over the murder of Nazrin Hassan, the former CEO of Cradle Fund.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Wan Mohammad Arfan Wan Othman, who represents Samirah and the two teenagers, confirmed the hearing dates. These dates were established during a case management session held before Federal Court deputy registrars Wan Fatimah Zaharah Wan Yussof and Mahyun Yusof.

Earlier this year, on February 8, 2024, the Court of Appeal upheld a decision by the Shah Alam High Court to acquit Samirah and the teenagers. The High Court had initially freed them on June 21, 2022, without requiring them to present a defense, citing the prosecution's failure to establish a prima facie case.

The charges against Samirah, Nazrin's widow, the teenagers (now aged 22 and 19), and an Indonesian woman, Eka Wahyu Lestari (still at large), alleged that they murdered Nazrin at his home in Mutiara Damansara between late June 13, 2018, and early the next morning.

In its judgment, the Court of Appeal found that the evidence was insufficient to prove the accused's guilt. The court noted a lack of evidence to suggest the fire was intentionally set, highlighting contradictions between findings from the Chemical Department of Malaysia and the Fire and Rescue Department's investigators.

Additionally, the Court of Appeal pointed out that the methods for analyzing the petrol were uncertified and that investigators had overlooked essential steps necessary for a thorough analysis.
