Serdang: Several activists part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and Thousand Madleens to Gaza (FFC-TMTG) have been reported to experience rough and abusive treatment during and after their interception by the Israeli military.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCARE) chief executive officer Kamarul Zaman Shaharul Anwar stated that a lawyer from the Legal Centre for Arab Minority Rights (ADALAH) indicated that the activists were subjected to physical abuse, including being kicked, slapped, and aggressively held. This treatment was said to be similar to that faced by participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla.
By 3 pm, ADALAH lawyers had met with 100 of the 145 activists detained by Israel. While nine Malaysian activists were confirmed to be uninjured, MyCARE has arranged for further health checks upon their release to ensure their well-being. Seven Malaysian activists signed deportation letters; however, the status of two others remains unknown. MyCARE continues to await a report from ADALAH lawyers, with the tribunal expected to conclude by midnight Malaysian time.
Kamarul Zaman emphasized that the FFC-TMTG activists, comprising medical doctors and international journalists, were solely carrying humanitarian aid intended for the people of Gaza and were not involved in any terrorist activities, contrary to Israeli reports. He highlighted that their mission was to deliver hope, medicine, and care to the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza, who have long suffered.
The FFC-TMTG mission involved roughly 150 activists from 25 countries aboard nine ships, including the Conscience and Umm Saad. The Israeli military intercepted the flotilla at about 120 nautical miles from Gaza at 10.50 am Malaysian time. The Malaysian delegation onboard the Conscience included Prof Emeritus Dr Mohd Alauddin, Dr Fauziah Mohd Hassan, Dr Hafiz Sulaiman, Dr Ili Syakira Mohd Suhaimi, Prof Dr Mohd Afandi Salleh, Dr Noorhasyimah Ismail, Norsham Abu Bakar, and Astro Awani journalist Syafik Shukri Abdul Jalil, while Dr Maziah Muhammad was onboard the Umm Saad.
