Flood-related Matters Take Centre Stage At Dewan Rakyat Today.


KUALA LUMPUR: The ongoing flood situation in the country is among the key issues to be highlighted at the Dewan Rakyat today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, V. Ganabatirau (PH-Klang) will ask the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation whether the government is satisfied with the development of flood mitigation infrastructure and related investments. He also wants to know the measures being taken to enhance the country’s preparedness and response efficiency for flood disasters.

During the same session, Roslan Hashim (PN-Kulim Bandar Baharu) will ask the Minister of Education to state the number of students affected by the floods nationwide and the number of schools being used as temporary relief centres, so far.

Meanwhile, Young Syefura Othman (PH-Bentong) will ask the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry to state Malaysia’s stance following the United States’ statement threatening to impose a 100 per cent tariff on BRICS countries that plan to replace the use of the US Dollar.

ul Amin Hamid (PN-Padang Terap) will ask the Minister of Education about plans to revise the Malaysian History syllabus in light of new findings and facts that Malaysians, especially school students, should be aware of.

Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu), meanwhile, is set to ask the Minister of Home Affairs regarding the steps that the government is taking and will be taking to address border security issues between Malaysia and Thailand, particularly to combat human trafficking as well as the smuggling of drugs, firearms and subsidised goods across the border.

After the question-and-answer session, the sitting will proceed with the second reading of several bills, including the Administration of Islamic Law (Federal Territories) (Amendment) Bill 2024; Syariah Court Civil Procedure (Federal Territories) (Amendment) Bill 2024; National Wages Consultative Council (Amendment) Bill 2024; and the Legal Profession (Amendment) Bill 2024.

The current Dewan Rakyat sitting spans 35 days, running from Oct
14 to Dec 12.
