Perak: The Perak government will conduct an assessment of infrastructure damaged by floods to support an application for additional funding, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad. He stated that the results of the assessment would be forwarded to the federal government and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) for consideration in allocating funds to the state.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, district officers will hold a meeting to review the post-flood scenario of severely damaged infrastructure, including collapsed bridges. Although obtaining additional funds may be challenging, Saarani mentioned that NADMA might have special allocations that could assist the state. These comments were made after he met flood victims at the Matang Gelugor temporary evacuation centre (PPS).
Earlier, Saarani visited several PPS and inspected areas in four districts affected by the floods since Thursday night, namely Larut Matang Selama, Manjung, Kerian, and Central Perak. The government recently approved an immediate allocation of RM1.2 million for flood mitigation projects in the LMS district.
Meanwhile, all security agencies, technical departments, and local authorities have been fully mobilised to carry out rescue operations, provide basic facilities at the PPS, and ensure the welfare of victims. Saarani also mentioned that all department heads have been asked to activate the MADANI Civil Servants Compassion Squad under the coordination of the State Secretary's Office to assist with post-flood clean-up and recovery work. This initiative aims to expedite the post-flood recovery process and ensure affected areas are promptly restored.
Residents in high-risk areas have been advised to remain vigilant, comply with authorities' instructions, and avoid activities near rivers, canals, and flood-prone areas. The State Disaster Management Committee, along with security agencies, will continue monitoring the situation to ensure aid is delivered quickly and effectively.
As of 5 pm today, the number of flood victims increased to 2,963 from 1,006 families, with two more PPS opened in Manjung and Kerian, bringing the total to 28 active PPS.
