Kuala lumpur: Malaysia and Brazil are determined to enhance bilateral relations across various sectors, including in trade and investments, energy and human development, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. He stated that both countries are committed to strengthening cooperation in fields such as semiconductors, food technology, education, and culture.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted the potential for expertise sharing, noting Malaysia's experience in the semiconductor sector and Brazil's proficiency in food technology. Discussions also included the possibility of increased imports of poultry products from Brazil. The announcement was made during a joint press conference with Brazilian President Luiz In¡cio Lula da Silva following a bilateral meeting at Seri Perdana.

Anwar expressed the potential for Malaysia and Brazil to serve as key partners in fostering collaboration between ASEAN and the South American region. He emphasized the importance of the two countries and regions working together to extend relations beyond trade investments, politics, and culture.

During the press conference, Anwar also praised President Lula's stance on the atrocities against Palestinians and the ongoing situation in Gaza, acknowledging his courage in speaking out against these issues. Additionally, Anwar congratulated Lula on receiving an Honorary Doctorate from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia for his leadership and contributions to the Global South.

President Lula is on an official visit to Malaysia from October 25 to 27 as the Guest of the Chair of ASEAN, in conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits. This visit marks his first to Malaysia since taking office in January 2023 and the first by a Brazilian President to the ASEAN Summit since Brazil became the bloc's sectoral dialogue partner in 2022.
