Foreigners at JPN Premises Not Necessarily Applying for MyKad – Department Clarifies

Kuala lumpur: The presence of any individual at the National Registration Department (JPN) premises, including foreigners, does not necessarily mean they are applying for or will be issued a MyKad, the department said. It stated that JPN offers a variety of registration and documentation services for both citizens and non-citizens, depending on the nature of the transaction being conducted.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, JPN highlighted through its social media platforms that services offered to non-citizens include birth registration and civil marriage registration with foreign spouses. The department advised against making assumptions based on an individual's presence at JPN premises or photographs without understanding the true purpose of their visit.

The announcement came in response to claims that linked the presence of foreign individuals at JPN offices to MyKad applications. JPN also clarified that the issuance of a pink birth certificate is merely proof of birth registration in Malaysia and does not confer Malaysian citizenship. The certificate is issued to both citizens and non-citizens, including those who do not meet the requirements for Malaysian citizenship.

JPN emphasized the importance of registering every birth that occurs in Malaysia, regardless of the parents' citizenship status. Such registration ensures that every birth is officially recorded, but it does not imply that Malaysian citizenship has been granted to the individual in question.
