Putrajaya: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today that Form Six students will be reclassified under the post-secondary education category. This move aligns Form Six with pre-university, foundation, and matriculation programmes, aiming to better equip students for university entry.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar stated, "I have directed that all Form Six students be placed under the post-secondary category. For example, if I were a Form Six student, I would not like to be regarded as a schoolchild. So we are making a policy change whereby all post-secondary programmes will come under the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE)." This announcement was made during a casual engagement session with students and undergraduates at the Prime Minister's breaking of fast event with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and MoHE staff at the Seri Perdana Complex.
The event was attended by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Deputy Higher Education Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. Anwar emphasized that the reclassification addresses concerns that the Form Six programme had been overlooked compared to matriculation and other pre-university routes.
Earlier this year, on January 20, during the launch of the National Education Blueprint (RPN) 2026-2035, Anwar highlighted that MoHE would assume full responsibility for the pre-university education system, which includes Form Six and matriculation. This reclassification formally acknowledges these groups as part of higher education students.
