Kuala lumpur: Former Chief News Editor of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), S. Sivaselvam, passed away at about 3 am today. His widow, Lalitha S. Nadarajah, confirmed that Sivaselvam, aged 77, died at their home in Cheras after a brief illness.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sivaselvam's contributions to the organization spanned several decades, beginning his career on April 1, 1968, as a cadet reporter. He retired on November 9, 1989, as Special Desk Editor, after serving in various significant roles such as Chief News Editor, Ipoh Bureau Chief, Deputy News Editor of the General News Service, and Chief Sub-editor (English) of the Foreign News Service.
In 2007, Sivaselvam returned to Bernama on a contract basis as Chief Sub-Editor (English) at the Economic News Service. He continued to lend his expertise as Consulting Editor in 2013 and later as Senior Training Officer from 2014 to 2016.
His widow, who also served with Bernama, mentioned that Sivaselvam's remains would be cremated at the Kampung Tunku Crematorium in Petaling Jaya later today.
