Pulau Bohey Dulang: Pulau Bohey Dulang, within the Tun Sakaran Marine Park here, will be reopened to visitors on Saturday. The marine park manager, Ghazalie Pg Hindi, stated that the reopening follows the successful completion of a crocodile threat mitigation operation carried out in the area, with the support of the local community. 'Relevant agencies will continue with monitoring efforts to ensure visitors' safety,' he said today in a statement.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sabah Parks issued a notice for the temporary closure of the island from June 10 to June 13 to facilitate the mitigation operation. Pulau Bohey Dulang, the second largest island in the Tun Sakaran Marine Park, is one of Sabah's top tourist attractions, renowned for its Bohey Dulang hill, ocean views, and flora and fauna.
Meanwhile, Semporna Fishermen Association chairman Salleh Abdul Salleh told Bernama that the Sebangkat fishing community and the Fishermen Safety Group (KESAN) caught a four-metre female crocodile in an operation near the Sebangkat-Salakan reefs yesterday. 'Initially, the fishing community and KESAN caught the crocodile at 9.20 am using a fishing net, but it managed to escape. KESAN recaptured the crocodile at 9.50 am before the Wildlife Department shot the animal to ensure the safety of the maritime community, including tourists in the area,' he added.
