Kuala Lumpur: The People's Volunteer Corps, more popularly known as RELA to Malaysians, are usually associated with keeping public order during major events, but this time at the Perak MADANI Rakyat Programme 2025, their free haircut service has taken centrestage and become a star attraction.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the free haircut service at the Home Ministry (KDN) booth in Lumut Waterfront here is being offered to the first 40 visitors daily throughout the three-day event. Perak Rela director Razib Buhaini stated that the department always prioritizes service to the public, regardless of the situation. He highlighted that this initiative aims to reduce costs for families and individuals facing financial difficulties in obtaining a haircut, with current costs ranging between RM10 to RM15 per head.

Razib emphasized that the quality of haircuts provided is comparable to existing barbers, as the RELA members offering the service are skilled barbers themselves. Haircuts are available only for men, and while they accommodate style requests, extreme styles are not offered in order to maintain neatness.

A RELA member and barber, Muhamad Zulhafiz Kamis, 34, shared his experience, noting that he joined RELA in 2016 to use his self-taught barber skills to assist rural communities, particularly in his village in Beruas. He explained that in rural areas, barbers are scarce, and he often provides this service to his community.

The Perak PMR 2025 runs from 9 am to 10 pm on Friday and Saturday, concluding at 6 pm on Sunday, with government service booths operating from 9 am to 6 pm throughout the event.
