Repair of Genting Peras-Kuala Klawang Road Requires Thorough Slope Assessment: Amirudin

Kuala Lumpur: The repair work on the Genting Peras-Kuala Klawang road necessitates an in-depth assessment of the affected slopes to ensure long-term safety, stated Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. He emphasized that the primary concern in repairing the road is to ensure the strength of the slopes to prevent repeated landslides.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin highlighted at a press conference following the launch of the 'Selangor Tekad Pendidikan Kita Programme' that several aspects of the affected slopes need improvement and reevaluation. He stressed that rushing the repair work could increase the risk of future landslides.

Amirudin explained that while it might be straightforward to level the road quickly, the real challenge lies in reinforcing the upper slopes. He cautioned against hasty repairs that could lead to greater potential for collapses or landslides.

Furthermore, Amirudin noted that Selangor Infrastructure and Agriculture Executive Councilor Datuk Izham Hashim would provide additional details regarding the delay in the repair works but assured that the project is ongoing.

On Wednesday, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun expressed hope for the Selangor government to expedite the repairs of the road, which was damaged by floods four years ago. Aminuddin pointed out that reopening the road would alleviate congestion, especially during festive seasons and school holidays, and serve as an alternative route to Kuala Lumpur.

The Jalan Kuala Klawang-Genting Peras has been closed since December 2021, following damage caused by floods and collapsed slopes.
