Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that freedom of expression must be guided by moral responsibility, warning that differences of opinion should never be used to divide society or undermine shared human values.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted the need for more effective and responsible communication in today's era, urging that public discourse be rooted in wisdom, knowledge, and civility. He emphasized that a society lacking in knowledge and compassion could easily fall into ignorance due to negligence, prejudice, and misunderstanding.
Anwar shared these insights during the Communications Ministry's monthly assembly, which was also attended by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. He further elaborated that a nation's progress should be assessed not only by material prosperity and physical development but also by the depth of its knowledge, intellect, and values.
The Prime Minister stated that while pursuing the national development agenda, the focus should not only be on economic growth and technological progress but also on nurturing a knowledgeable and ethical society. He concluded by stressing the importance of a society that values learning and remains united on the foundations of truth, justice, and compassion.
