Kuala Lumpur: The government has sanctioned RM1.5 million for constructing a new mosque in Mukim Jerek, which will be administered through the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department, as announced by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the allocation is intended to replace the existing mosque and was approved following a request during the Nenggiri state by-election campaign. Ahmad Zahid confirmed the funding approval during his speech at the Aid Distribution Ceremony for the Prosperous People's Housing Programme and the 2025 KESEDAR Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration at Dataran Awam Kampung Jerek.
The decision to allocate funds was in response to a request from Nenggiri assemblyman Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani. Additionally, Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, announced a RM2 million allocation for a bridge construction at Batu 10, Nenggiri, under the ministry's funding.
At the same event, he revealed plans for constructing 30 shops, a project to be executed by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and KESEDAR. This initiative is designed to enhance the living standards in the Nenggiri constituency by bolstering the economy and developing infrastructure.
Ahmad Zahid emphasized the urgency of upgrading Pekan Nenggiri into a town, stating that he expects visible progress, such as building structures and pillars, on his next visit. He also mentioned that if he cannot oversee the progress personally, he would ask Datuk Seri Haji Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, Chairman of the UMNO Kelantan Liaison Committee, to monitor the developments.
