Government Allocates RM185 Million for Repair of 358 PPR Flats Nationwide

Kuala Lumpur: The government has announced an allocation of RM185 million for the repair of facilities at 358 People's Housing Programme (PPR) flats across the country this year. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that this initiative is a priority for the MADANI Government to ensure the welfare of PPR residents, particularly the urban poor, is maintained.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister highlighted that RM285 million has been spent on PPR repairs over the past two years. Anwar mentioned that this expenditure is essential, as it addresses critical issues like malfunctioning lifts and inadequate facilities. He stressed the importance of creating a living environment that residents can truly call home.

Anwar made these remarks during a speech at the Community Forum (Forkom) supported by Think City at the Lembah Subang 1 PPR. He also announced a specific allocation of RM1.2 million for the repair project at Lembah Subang 1 PPR, focusing on frequently failing lifts.

The Prime Minister urged the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) to expedite lift repairs to ensure residents' comfort by Ramadan. He insisted on receiving a progress report within a week and expressed a desire to make Lembah Subang 1 PPR a model for other PPRs nationwide.

Additionally, Anwar called on state governments and local authorities to list PPR residents to ensure rental rates remain reasonable. He suggested that rent arrears or other issues should be addressed in collaboration with relevant authorities, assemblymen, and Members of Parliament to find optimal solutions.

Anwar emphasized the importance of rent payment as the government invests in housing provisions. He noted that while discussions on lowering rent could take place, it is crucial for residents to fulfill their rental obligations to maintain comfortable living conditions.
