Government Allocates RM240 Million for 2027 SEA Games to Foster Unity

Kuala Lumpur:The Malaysian government has allocated RM240 million in Budget 2027 for hosting the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games next year, highlighting its commitment to the sports sector and promoting national unity.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Abdul Rashid Yaakub, CEO of the Malaysia SEA Games Organising Committee (MASOC) and the ASEAN Para Games 2027 Secretariat, noted that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's budget announcement aligns with the Games' theme of 'Raikan Perpaduan' (Celebrating Unity).

Abdul Rashid expressed gratitude for the funds, emphasizing the positive impact on the country's sports industry and the encouragement it provides for athletes to excel. The allocation is seen as a step towards enhancing Malaysia's image through world-class sports events.

The Prime Minister, while presenting Budget 2027 with the theme "Reaching for the Skies, While Anchored on Our Values," highlighted the need to use the biennial Games to boost national pride and unity. The SEA Games are scheduled for September 18-29, 2027, across Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Johor, and Penang, while the ASEAN Para Games will take place in Kuala Lumpur from October 17-23.

Abdul Rashid also reflected on the Prime Minister's recognition of sports as essential, calling this a proud moment for the sports community. The Prime Minister further acknowledged the successful hosting of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix and the achievements of the Malaysian team at the recent Asian Games in Japan, where they earned nine golds, seven silvers, and 16 bronzes, showcasing the nation's strength in diversity.
