National Sports Day 2026 Events Postponed Due to Haze Concerns

Bukit Jalil:The National Sports Day (HSN) 2026 celebrations, originally set to take place tomorrow, have been postponed as a result of hazardous haze conditions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) announced the postponement, stating that a new date will be determined once air quality improves to safe levels for outdoor activities. The decision, endorsed by Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari, was made in consultation with relevant authorities and acknowledges the concerns expressed by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, regarding the haze.

The ministry emphasized that the postponement is a precautionary measure aimed at preventing health risks to participants, organizers, and the public. It highlighted thorough discussions with government agencies to assess the implications of proceeding with a large-scale event amidst current conditions, prioritizing public health and safety.

While national celebrations are on hold, the ministry noted that state-level events and other local celebrations will be contingent upon the respective local conditions and decisions by authorities. Celebrations in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Kedah, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, and Melaka have been delayed, whereas events in Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Perlis, Perak, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan will continue as planned.

The ministry has also advised Malaysians to restrict outdoor activities and adhere to health guidelines and advisories from the Ministry of Health and the Department of Environment.
