Johor bahru: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that his administration has successfully ended the era where leaders exploited their power to misappropriate the wealth of the people, thereby reinforcing the foundation of national governance. He emphasized that this change signifies a shift towards an administration driven by integrity, despite facing criticisms and negative perceptions.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted that the culture of those in power stealing from the people has been halted over the past three years, although some old cases remain. He underscored the importance of adherence to due process in current governance practices. During his address at the Johor-level Rapat Umum 27 Tahun Reformasi programme, Anwar asserted that no individual, regardless of influence, should have the right to unlawfully accumulate the wealth of the citizens.
Anwar stressed that the government's policies are designed to benefit the people, particularly focusing on the lower-income groups. Efforts to enhance the well-being of the populace include salary increments for civil servants, increased minimum wages, and subsidies for RON95 fuel. Anwar detailed that civil servants' salaries have seen significant increases, with RM10 billion added this year and an anticipated RM18 billion next year. Additionally, the Rahmah Cash Contribution (STR) has been raised to RM15 billion, with fuel subsidies ensuring citizens pay RM1.99 per litre for RON95, compared to market prices for non-citizens.
He also mentioned that workers' wages have increased, and ministers' salaries have been reduced by 20 percent. The minimum wage, previously set at RM1,200 during the opposition's time in government, has been raised to RM1,700 in less than three years. Anwar called for the rejection of divisive racial politics, advocating for unity among all ethnicities, including Malays, Indians, and Chinese, to ensure national progress.
