Perak: The government is currently examining various mechanisms to support traders affected by the global energy crisis, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced. The primary focus remains on ensuring a stable supply of essential goods while implementing price controls to protect public interests.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized the importance of potentially providing flexibilities to businesses, which may include adjustments in taxes, tariffs, or imposed charges, to help reduce operational costs. He also mentioned that the possibility of deferring e-invoicing is under consideration to alleviate burdens on both the public and traders. These measures are being evaluated following inquiries about the potential introduction of an economic stimulus package in response to the global energy crisis.
The Prime Minister shared these insights during the Perak MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2026. Attendees included Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
The discussion on potential economic relief measures follows earlier statements by Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, the political secretary to the Finance Minister. He indicated that an economic stimulus package, akin to those rolled out during the COVID-19 pandemic, might be considered to mitigate the global energy crisis's impact on the populace.
