Bukit katil: Malaysia's food supply is stable and sufficient, as confirmed by Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu. However, the government is maintaining a vigilant watch on the situation due to potential disruptions in energy and logistics that could impact the global food system.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad Sabu highlighted that while current food stocks are adequate, the longevity of these stocks is uncertain. He emphasized that fluctuations in market prices could occur when new stocks arrive, especially in the face of prolonged conflicts affecting global oil supplies, which in turn influence the cost of food production and distribution globally.
The government, operating under a crisis preparedness framework, has outlined measures to address potential challenges. This includes ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) concerning possible changes to subsidies or assistance. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is also coordinating with various agencies, such as the Farmers' Organisation Authority (LPP), to provide timely information to farmers and maintain advantageous relations with network countries to offer competitive prices for agricultural imports.
Mohamad Sabu also announced that significant development allocations have been dedicated to strengthening the food supply chain and enhancing agro-food sector productivity in Melaka. Beneficiaries include the LPP, the Agriculture Department, and other related agencies, with allocated funds aimed at supporting these initiatives.
The Sentuhan Agro MADANI Programme, where Mohamad Sabu made these remarks, also featured the Agro MADANI Sales, offering essential goods at reduced prices through a collaboration of ministry agencies.
