Rantau Panjang: The government is set to intensify its focus on renewable energy as part of its strategic plan to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. This initiative was announced by the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, at the Ihsan MADANI programme held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Rantau Panjang 2.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shamsul Azri emphasized the government's commitment to renewable energy, stating, "We will focus on that (renewable energy) as our target is to achieve net-zero emissions. Therefore, we will also emphasize and highlight the importance of sustainability in the ASEAN meetings." His comments underscore the administration's dedication to sustainability and its role in regional discussions.
At the same event, Shamsul Azri announced a grant of RM10,000 to repair the school's surau, which suffered damage in recent floods. Additionally, he distributed the Bantuan Wang Ihsan (BWI) assistance to approximately 140 heads of households in Rantau Panjang and Pasir Mas, who were impacted by the flooding.
During the previous monsoon season, spanning from November to December last year, 38,446 heads of households were relocated to 315 temporary relief centers across the state due to severe flooding. The government has already disbursed RM683,000 of the BWI assistance to 683 heads of households and remains committed to completing payments to all eligible recipients before the conclusion of the 2024/2025 monsoon season.
