Government Stands Firm Against Normalising LGBTQ Culture

Kuala Lumpur: The government has firmly rejected all attempts to normalise lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) culture, whether implicitly or openly, according to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar. As a nation that upholds Islam as the official religion and adheres to Eastern cultural values, the minister stated that such lifestyles are contrary to the Federal Constitution, existing laws, and official government policy.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Na'im expressed serious concern over reports about a programme themed 'Pride Care: Queer Stories and Sexual Health Awareness', allegedly aimed at celebrating Pride Month, which had been circulated on social media. He emphasized that such programmes, even if conducted behind closed doors, challenge the societal norms and religious values upheld by the majority of Malaysians.

Mohd Na'im urged authorities, including the Royal Malaysia Police, to investigate the programme and take appropriate action in case of any legal breach. He also called on the organisers to halt activities that contravene the law and societal moral values.

Religious agencies such as the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and state Islamic departments were urged to be ready to enforce the law, particularly if Muslims are involved. Mohd Na'im emphasized the importance of cooperation among all parties to protect the social and moral fabric of the nation from elements potentially harmful to faith, morality, and harmony.

He reassured that the MADANI government would continue to uphold the principles of 'maqasid syariah' in national governance to preserve religion, morality, and dignity, affirming that a deviant culture will never become the norm in Malaysia.
