Gov’t Allocates RM50 Million for TVET 2.0 from PTPK Fund: PM Anwar

Kuala lumpur: The government has authorized the allocation of up to RM50 million from the High-Impact Programme fund under the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK) to bolster the implementation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) 2.0, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, emphasized that this allocation is contingent upon active collaboration between employers, industry players, and the government to ensure the success of the TVET 2.0 agenda.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar reiterated the government's decision to utilize up to RM50 million from the High-Impact Programme fund to support TVET 2.0. He highlighted that this initiative demands cooperation from employers and industry, particularly through the TVET Council, to enhance coordination, training programs, and exposure opportunities. The announcement was made during the National TVET Day 2026 celebration, attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Cabinet ministers, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Within the Budget 2026 framework, the total allocation for PTPK amounts to RM650 million. Ahmad Zahid previously noted that TVET 2.0 signifies a restructuring of the TVET curriculum, prioritizing high-technology fields to align with future industry needs.

Anwar elaborated that implementing TVET 2.0 is a strategic move, given that artificial intelligence (AI), cryptology, and the energy transition have emerged as key global priorities. He pointed out that these technological advancements call for new expertise areas, emphasizing that outdated thinking will hinder the country's economic progress.

The Prime Minister stressed that TVET 2.0's success hinges on robust private sector support and commitment, further involving government-linked companies (GLCs) and executing specially formulated TVET programs. Collaboration with various stakeholders, including domestic private sectors, multinational corporations (MNCs), and international companies, is essential, as their participation in providing specialized training for TVET students is crucial.

Anwar also emphasized the importance of balancing skills development, including AI, with values, ethics, and humanity to cultivate well-rounded human capital. He urged educational and training institutions to ensure students emerge as disciplined individuals with integrity and societal responsibility.

National TVET Day, celebrated annually on June 2, acknowledges the role of skills education in human capital development. It serves as a platform to strengthen the MADANI TVET agenda, emphasizing skills, innovation, and graduate employability. Under the Malaysia MADANI framework, TVET has been elevated to a national agenda, with the government committed to strengthening the sector through high-technology courses to meet global industrial investment demands.
