Gov’t Sanctions High-Tech CCTV Systems for MMEA Detention Centres and AADK Lockups

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government has approved the installation of high-tech closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems at all Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detention centres and National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) lockups nationwide. This initiative is part of the government's efforts to enhance the efficiency of enforcement agencies in safeguarding the security of detainees.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister conveyed this decision via a Facebook post, noting that the approval came during the Special Cabinet Committee on National Governance (JKKTN) meeting, which he chaired. Anwar highlighted that this move aligns with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) and aims to tackle current challenges faced by enforcement agencies, enhance security measures, and improve monitoring at detention facilities.

Additionally, the Prime Minister expressed strong concerns regarding the recurrent incidents of foreign fishing boats encroaching on Malaysia's waters. These incursions not only breach the country's maritime sovereignty but also lead to substantial losses of marine resources, adversely affecting the local fishing community and the national economy.

Anwar further emphasized that, in line with the government's commitment to protecting national sovereignty, there was an agreement to tackle issues concerning the nation's waters through strategic cooperation between Malaysia and the countries involved. He stated that the policy and legal reforms agreed upon reflect the government's dedication to ensuring that public services are responsive to national security needs while maintaining efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness in public sector governance.
