Kuala lumpur: Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif today shared her vision to establish a network of Green Connectors that will link major landmarks in the city, enabling residents and visitors to walk seamlessly between destinations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Maimunah said the initiative would also help realise the popular '15-minute city concept' while strengthening the city's identity as a sustainable and people-friendly hub. She expressed her desire for community collaboration and support to connect various key locations like KLCC, TRX, Merdeka 118, and Dataran Merdeka through these Green Connectors.

The announcement was made during the launch of the third edition of Sustainable September at KLCC Park. The event, themed 'Liveable and Lovable Precinct', featured a variety of community activities including a morning fun run, a tree planting ceremony, and a Zumba session attended by KLCC Holdings Group CEO Datuk Seri Mohd Salem Kailany.

Maimunah emphasized the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders, including the public sector, private partners, and the community, to ensure Kuala Lumpur becomes a clean, green, liveable, and lovable city. She urged the community to help reduce waste, highlighting that the city spends up to RM260 million annually on maintaining cleanliness. By reducing waste through recycling and upcycling, the city could reallocate funds to improve infrastructure and public spaces.

She also discussed efforts to assist the B40 community, particularly hawkers and roadside traders, by upgrading business areas to make them cleaner and more appealing. Maimunah called for ideas to enhance these areas, aiming to make them more attractive to the public while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food quality.
