Barcelona: The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 humanitarian mission, set to sail from Barcelona, Spain, on April 12, carries a strategic objective of countering the Zionist regime's 'hasbara', or what is described as its propaganda efforts, on the global stage. Sumud Nusantara Chef de Mission, Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri Kamaruzaman, said the mission builds on the success of the earlier Sumud Nusantara 1.0 initiative, which helped mobilise public support and raise international awareness of the situation in Palestine.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nadir highlighted the growing momentum of pro-Palestinian narratives, which has prompted the Israeli government to increase its propaganda spending significantly. He noted that the impact of this can be observed in the latest budget, where the allocation for hasbara has risen to USD750 million, compared with USD150 million in 2025. These figures were shared during an inspection of final preparations for the Malaysian Humanitarian Aid Mission to Gaza, involving 30 containers.
Nadir emphasized that GSF 2.0 is not merely a maritime mission but part of a broader collective effort to break global silence and challenge narratives perceived as misleading through strong international support. He elaborated that the mission has been carefully planned with input from geopolitical experts and former military personnel to ensure it effectively renews global attention at a time when the Israeli regime is facing heightened scrutiny.
He further explained that the main goal is to counter the hasbara narrative, which portrays Israel as being oppressed and acting purely in self-defence, a message widely pushed through international media and global platforms. The flotilla, he added, represents a comprehensive humanitarian initiative backed by various parties, aimed at ensuring that calls for justice for Palestine continue to be heard worldwide.
