Kuala lumpur: The man and woman who were murdered in Taman Nona, Guar Chempedak last Thursday were stabbed and slashed a combined 28 times, Kedah deputy police chief DCP Baderulhisham Baharudin revealed today. Autopsies conducted on both victims at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital's forensics unit here on Friday revealed the woman, 28, died as a result of a stab wound to the chest, while the man, 30, died after being stabbed in the neck.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Baderulhisham stated, "We believe jealousy is the motive of the incident as the woman sustained 20 injuries to the chest, neck, arms and legs due to stabbing and slashing, while about eight injuries were found on the man's chest, neck and back." The police have seized a knife believed to be used in the attack, which was discarded in the bushes in Sungai Petani before the suspect's arrest.

The suspect, a 29-year-old, was previously investigated under Section 323/427 of the Penal Code for attempting to ram the male victim. He has been remanded for six days from yesterday until September 17.

In a separate development, Baderulhisham highlighted the resolution of 31 telecommunications cable theft cases in Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu, Yan, and Padang Terap in Kedah, as well as Arau and Padang Besar in Perlis. The arrest of nine men and a woman, including a technician and a scrapyard owner, led to this resolution. The suspects admitted their involvement following a report about cable theft along Jalan Putra on August 24, which culminated in their arrest.

Investigations uncovered that two suspects, former subcontractors, posed as technicians by wearing security uniforms and accessed substation areas using duplicated keys. The stolen cables were melted and sold to the scrapyard owner for RM25 to RM35 per kilogramme. The estimated losses by the affected company amount to RM50,000, while the recovered seizures are valued at RM15,000. The case is being investigated under Section 379/431 of the Penal Code.

Baderulhisham also reported the arrest of six men linked to three motorcycle theft groups, solving 10 cases of motorcycle and component thefts in the Kota Setar district. The police confiscated a stolen motorcycle, two motorcycle frames, and several components, including dismantled frames, engines, and rims. This case is being investigated under Section 379A and 379A(1) of the Penal Code.
